Foods at Kate’s
Posted by John Stevens in Misc on February 28th, 2009
Kate told me to tell all of you that there’s food being prepared at her place. You should all come here. If you don’t, you probably suck. Plus, we already finished the manual labor, so you don’t have to work, you’ll just get fed. Kind of like all those undeserving poor that will benefit from Obama’s new stimulus package.
Know your audience

God/Gun - same first letter, same # of letters - coincidence?
Got this in a coupon flier yesterday. Somehow it took me a few moments to parse what the ad was actually about. Guess this company really knows its target audience. Does anyone else find the picture of the dude in the corner as menacing as I do (very menacing)? The next thing that came to mind was, of course:
“And St. Attila raised the hand grenade up on high saying, `O Lord, bless this Thy hand grenade that with it Thou mayest blow Thine enemeis to tiny bits, in Thy mercy’ and the Lord did grin and the people did feast upon the lambs and sloths and carp and anchovies and orang-utangs and breakfast cereals and fruit bats and…”
First, Thou shall pull back the Holy bolt. Then Thou shall count to 3 if you know how. Otherwise, take a gulp of beer and just shoot the bastard, whatever it might be. A trip to their website, as the damn yankee I am, was a little shocking in their promotion of guns as gifts to boys (complete with an apparently official ‘Boy Scouts of America’ rifle). One particularly interesting passage from the Varmint Express .17 HMR is:
The Henry Varmint Express is a great choice for squirrels, prairie dogs, crows, rabbits and even fox or weasels. For the ultimate varmint hunting experience with a traditional firearm, ask your local dealer about the Henry Varmint Express today.
A few Thees and Thous and you’ve got yourself a Holy Grail scene. People still use the word ‘varmint’? ‘Dawg gawn it, Pa, if we had that there Henry Varmint Express rifle we could be eatin’ squirrel every night of the week! Kin we git one?’
I stand behind my Yankee roots.
Doing something tonight?
So, I need to get some more work done tonight; but before I get crackin’ on that, given that it’s Friday, I’d like to do something fun for an hour or two.
Anyone want to do something? Ram skeller, Taj Mahal, Alley-Cat?
No Roomie Party

Dude, I want one. Sorry to update a post that's not mine, I thought it needed some color. - Adam
So I’m trying to shift to the other room in my apartment this weekend, and I will at several points need help shifting furniture. I have every intent of bribing you guys for help. There will be alcohol, food, and other festivities – as such it seems worth it to have a party (that and to celebrate possibly my last weekend w/o a roomie). It’s looking like things will start late Saturday afternoon/early evening (I know at least some of you actually want to do work).
As for festivities: I have various board games, ps2, 360, wii, and dreamcast. There are 2 tv’s – both small, and one can only handle the dreamcast – I might also be able to hook up one of my monitors, I’m not sure about that though. If one of you wants to borrow a projector, we could probably move furniture to free up a wall.
Basically entertainment is whatever you want. As for alcohol/food, I would be eternally grateful if someone would be willing to play taxi that morning – the bonus being your favorites will be bought for sure. As to what you want to eat – post here. I’m thinking pizza, chips, pretzels – let me know if there’s anything else you want.
I think that’s it – if there’s anything else I think of I’ll edit/comment later.

Can we do this?

What’s going on this evening? Anything? Can THIS go on this evening?
Beery Wednesday?
Anyone up for anything tonight?
I’m feeling the need to forget coding for a while.
Skellar Beer && Pizza sound good?
Maybe a game while we’re there – we haven’t Munchkin’d in a while, and there’s also Chez Geek
Props, mad props

¿Es muy cómico, sí?
And I still haven’t seen the movie they’re watching, and I still don’t really want to.
Monday Plan 2/23
Posted by yuki in Monday Dinners on February 22nd, 2009
We probably need to start talking about it at least the day before to actually get someone to cook and not eat out.
Assuming we can use Andy’s place tomorrow, I can do the cooking tomorrow. Here is what I have in mind, Okonomiyaki. You can read Wikipedia for details, but in short, it is like a pancake that you can put whatever you want in.
The main ingredients are
-Flour
-Water
-Egg
-Cabbage
and anything you want to put in like meat, fish, cheese, vegetables.
You actually need yam in addition to the above incredients to make it good, but I never saw one around here.
There is no guarantee that it tastes good. I have made it before with what I can get here and it wasn’t bad, but it may taste tasteless for you. I will have stir fry sause and mayonnaise.
Here is what I need to know:
-Who is coming
-What do you want for the anything part
-or would you want something other than okonomiyaki
Also, last week I went into a store in Fort Collins that I knew that it was there for 6 years and never went in, and it had bunch of Japanese food. They even had the mix of flour and some other stuff specialized for okonomiyaki. It is more expensive compared to flour ($5/lb) but we could use this one instead.
