Tuesday
So we haven’t done anything for the past few Tuesdays, which is sad :’(
Anywho, I know all you 520 people are gonna be just off of a potentially painful midterm – are we gonna do anything?
So I was watching Buffy last night (not quite completely addicted yet) and there was a cute little nightmare demon – it reminded me about smaller versions of things being inherently cute. It so held true in this case. Anyways, I wanted to put that up, but I couldn’t find the clip anywhere online.
So, per Eric’s request:
Anon(ymous): FREE Student Preview This Thursday

Anon(ymous)
Openstage Theatre is a local company that produces professional plays here in the Fort.
Their coming play is titled Anon(ymous), a story of a funny journey based on Homer’s Odyssey. I am planning to attend the FREE student show with some friends at the Lincoln Center this Thursday, April 2, at 7:30pm.
Let me know if you’re interested. Here is the link to their website:

So unfortunately I can’t embed this :’(
but I was talking to Alan about this guy the other day (character in a sitcom, not a real person)
He was doing something that reminded me of him…

Food and Games Tonight
Posted by Jeshua Bratman in Misc on March 27th, 2009
So I think we are going ahead with food and Arkham Horror tonight. Kate is stuck in town so she’ll be here after all.
I have the game with me but theres just a few more questions. What are we going to eat, and were are we going to play games. We could do it at my apartment, but it would be a little cramped, and I only have 3 chairs… I think we should try to play somewhere that we would have a nice big table to lay the game across. Any ideas?
Who all is going to play tonight?
And…

Donde está la nieve? El nieve está en mis pantalones.
Item 1: So yes, it’s snowing heavily, but have we done our weekly dinner yet? My friend Lindsay is in town (and for you nay-sayers, 3 of you have already met her so she exists) and we’re going to make chicken enchiladas one night this week. Would people be interested in hiking over to my place one of these days to enjoy some snowy mexican?
Item 2: Re: Arkham Horror playing, Kate will be out of town both Friday and Saturday night (right Kate?) so unless we push off the game until after that she won’t be able to join us anyway.
Item 3: SNOWBALL FIGHT!
That is all.
Needed something new…
This is mostly because I feel the need for a new post on the blag.
So…who’s up for pizza and beer tonight?
Possibly even children if we get a big enough group
:-p
Paradoxical Proofs
Here’s a funny proof:
Consider large positive integers that can’t be named in English with less then nineteen syllables, where named means uniquely identified. (e.g. 1,327,298,172: One billion, three hundred and twenty seven million, two hundred and ninety eight thousand, one hundred and seventy two…or if you just want to read off the numbers, 19 ones in a row is another example).
Assume there exist positive integers (as the above examples illustrate) that cannot be named with less then nineteen syllables, and put them all in the set S. Because they are integers, there must exist a least element in the set S. Let’s call this minimum element “The least integer not nameable in fewer than nineteen syllables”. However, “The least integer not nameable in fewer than nineteen syllables” has only 18 syllables and uniquely defines the least element in S. This is a contradiction and therefore there cannot exist positive integers which cannot be named with less than nineteen syllables. Problems with the proof?
Also good news from internet mom: my internet nephew is getting discharged from the service and will be home in a few weeks!
EDIT: Doug, I figured this post needed a picture.
Monday Dinners 3/23
Posted by yuki in Monday Dinners on March 23rd, 2009
Since no one plans ahead of time, seems like not eating out for Monday dinners idea is dead. It is the week before pay day for those who matters, so we will go for a cheap one this week. Doug and I talked a little and came up with Cheba Hut for tonight. How does this sound?
Arkham Horror
Posted by Jeshua Bratman in Misc on March 21st, 2009
So I finally bought a copy of Arkham Horror. If you’ve never heard of it, it is a cooperative board game set in H.P. Lovecraft’s world. Basically, each player is an investigator trying to stop an ancient one from awaking and destroying the world. You are all in the town of Arkham where portals opening and through which monsters are pouring out into the streets. The players’ job is to either close all the portals, or defeat the ancient one if it awakens (which happens after a certain number of turns, or if too many portals appear). The game is alot of fun, but fairly complicated for a board game since there is so much to keep track of (such as player skills, spells, items, money, sanity, health, special abilities, monsters, portals, events, encounters, etc). I don’t think I’ve ever played the game completely correctly because everyone is bound to forget a rule at some point or another, usually a rule that would have made a player go insane or die (this happens alot).

The game is good for between 3 and 10 players so if anyone is interested I was thinking about organizing a game sometime. It usually takes anywhere from 1.5 to 4 hours to finish a game, but since there is a bit of a learning curve I was thinking about doing a quick practice game first.
